Parent’s Day

July 31, 2007

Hi Everyone!

Today was a great day! It was parent’s day. We’ve all been really busy preparing for this! As it is also the end of the first session, we spent all morning packing up the girls and getting them ready to leave the following day. Even though it was an exhausting day, I loved it!
I was so excited for the singing demonstration. We presented two songs for the families that came to hear us. The first one was a song from a French musical. Translated in English, it is called “The Working Girl.” The second song was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The show was awesome! I was so proud of the girls. They really worked hard and did a wonderful job!
I really had a good day, and I enjoyed all the other demonstrations. All the counselors did a great job organizing the day. Everyone here was…..AWESOME!

First Session CIT Trip

July 31, 2007

On Monday we had the CIT trip, all of us. Shelby and Becca left camp with us at the beginning of quiet time and came back on Thursday for lunch. We went to a great place with two pools and a hot tub. I shared a room with Alicia and Kate. We had so much fun.

The dinner and breakfast were so good! This trip allowed us to get to know each other better. I really enjoyed this trip.

Blue Candle

July 31, 2007

It’s the first day of second session. New campers have arrived, and we’re ready to get going. But wait, there has been a change. The campers now have an activity period called “jiffy period.” This is the first period of the day where certain activities are offered. The campers can go to any one they want…. or they can choose to relax and hang out…read, nap, write letters home to family and friends, talk with friends, anything! It went great today. Musical rehearsals have started. This session it is Seusical! Dance rehearsals have also started. We are doing “Crazy in Love.” Not only did all our rehearsals start, our floating dock decided to go for a swim. Luckily, the lifeguards remembered the skills they learned from Shelby and saved it! All in all, it was an eventful and exciting day.

First Day

July 31, 2007

Dear Blog,

Well, what a fantastic day here at Camp Farwell! The second session kids have officially arrived! Woo-hoo! I am so excited to get to know everyone and to get started with the activities again. After a busy morning, the kids started testing in the activities and we had some activity sign up. We finished the day by having such a yummy cookout dinner and a traditional Farwell campfire. Happiness runs in a circular motion and here at Farwell, that circle never ends!

Cookout and Campfire

July 31, 2007

Today was our first day back at Camp Farwell for second session ‘07. It is so great to be back here with all my friends, doing all the things I love. After all our introductions with campers and staff, we did our activity evaluations. then we chose the activities that we wanted to take for the first week. Then, as we do every Sunday night, we had a cookout and campfire. The other CITs and I led the rest of the camp in many songs, and we all had a great time. Even though we are only one day into second session, so far it has been great. I am really looking forward to the next three weeks.

Love, Molly Z.

Farwell Fun Night

July 30, 2007

Truthfully, what an awesome last day of first session. With the dress rehearsals and a really long banquet, it couldn’t have gone any better.
The dress rehearsals for “The Smartest Woman in the Kingdom” and “Alice” weren’t perfect, but they were still productive and fun. The process gave us a lot of courage to put on a successful production tomorrow for all of our parents. Though both shows were crunched for time, no one who was on stage was unprepared. We are all ready to rock the stage tomorrow.
And then there was banquet! The CITs let all of us think that the banquet theme was going to be pirates, it was actually “Farwell Fun Night.” It was all about board games like monopoly, candy land, and battleship. The dinner was lasagna. It was amazing.
Today it finally hit me that camp is over. I, like many other campers, find these last days to be bittersweet. On the one hand, it’s camp so everything is awesome and amazing, and on the other, in two days we will be gone. I’m so sad to leave the place that has taught me so much and introduced me to so many good friends. I will miss Camp Farwell so much!!

Love, Caroline B.

Banquet

July 30, 2007

It was a very fun day today. After teaching, I watched the “Smartest Woman in the Kingdom” and “Alice in Wonderland.” Every camper tried to do their best, and they looked like professional actresses. In the evening we had banquet, and it was very impressive. The CITs decorated the dining room. They made cabin name cards, attached the balloons, and made the dining room look beautiful. I was very proud of them and appreciated it a lot. It was fabulous. I had a good time with my lovely cabin group in a fantastic place.

The Smartest Woman in the Kingdom

July 30, 2007

After four exciting weeks of activities, the twenty-seventh of July marked the end of first session. Yes, parent’s day has arrived. Thankfully, the sun held out, and the families were welcomed in by warm weather, as well as a bright-eyed staff. There were certainly lots of activity demonstrations for everyone to enjoy, with the girls showing off their newly acquired skills in riding, archery, arts and crafts, and water-skiing, to name a few.

The highlight for me was the performance of “The Smartest Woman in the Kingdom.” After a mere two weeks of rehearsals, the girls put on an excellent show. I know Lucie and I were just as proud as their parents were.

After a final Farwell campfire, we said goodbye to “Farwell time,” returned to “real time,” and we all went to bed for a well-earned sleep.  Now on to second session…

Last Campfire

July 30, 2007

I came to Camp Farwell thinking that I would hate it. I thought it would be the worst thing I ever had to do. I thought I wouldn’t make friends. Man was I wrong. Last night was the final campfire of first session. Knowing it was goodbye, the tears began to pour. I never imagined that these girls and this place would mean so much to me! I know it was only my first year at Camp Farwell, but I would like to consider it home. I love Camp Farwell, and I’d love to return next year. I hope I could return and see all of my senior friends as CITs, and be a CIT myself. Also, my cabin was asbolutely amazing.
